An exceptional Italian Mid-Century floating wall-mounted sideboard designed by Vittorio Dassi and produced in Italy during the 1950s. Combining architectural elegance with ingenious functionality, this rare suspended composition exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and sculptural sophistication that distinguish Dassi’s finest furniture designs.

The sideboard is composed of a continuous wall panel supporting two asymmetrically arranged suspended storage units. On the left, a single floating drawer is surmounted by an elegant shelf fitted with its original ivory back-painted glass top, while on the right, a larger two-drawer cabinet provides generous concealed storage.

The asymmetrical composition creates a strong sense of movement and architectural balance. The two suspended volumes appear to float against the wall, producing a visually light yet highly sculptural effect characteristic of sophisticated Italian design of the period.

Crafted in beautifully figured fine hardwood veneer, the piece displays warm honey-toned hues and lively natural grain that enhance its rounded edges, softened corners, and flowing profiles. The cabinetry is distinguished by carefully shaped drawer fronts with integrated recessed pulls, eliminating the need for applied hardware and preserving the purity of the horizontal composition.

A particularly significant feature is the original period ivory back-painted glass top, preserved in excellent condition. Its luminous surface creates a refined contrast with the warmth of the wood while remaining fully consistent with the original 1950s design. The survival of this original glass element adds considerable authenticity and collectible value to the piece.

The sideboard has undergone a complete professional restoration. All wooden surfaces have been carefully refinished and hand-polished, respecting the original construction and enhancing the depth and natural character of the veneer. The original back-painted glass has been preserved.

Elegant, functional, and highly versatile, this rare Dassi sideboard can be used as a floating credenza, entrance console, dressing cabinet, or sculptural storage element. Its suspended construction, asymmetric layout, and refined detailing make it an outstanding example of Italian Mid-Century Modern design.
