Exceptional Italian Mid-Century Modern vanity dressing table designed by Silvio Cavatorta, Italy, circa 1950s.

A highly distinctive example of Cavatorta’s refined approach to postwar Italian furniture design, this elegant vanity combines an architectural asymmetrical composition with richly figured wood, geometric veneer work and a beautifully shaped pale marble top.

The structure is defined by its long, slender proportions and tapered legs, giving the piece a remarkably light and sophisticated presence. The raised asymmetrical back incorporates a sculptural open compartment with softly rounded corners, providing a practical display space while becoming one of the most recognizable decorative elements of the design.

The vanity offers excellent storage, with three generously proportioned drawers suspended on the right and a smaller single drawer on the left. The drawer fronts feature carefully composed geometric veneers, creating a striking chevron and diamond effect that highlights the quality of the Italian cabinetmaking. Dark metal handles provide an elegant contrast to the warm polished wood.

The long shaped marble top, with its delicate natural veining and softly rounded projecting edges, introduces a luxurious material contrast while emphasizing the horizontal lines of the design.

A separate tall rectangular wall mirror with metal detailing completes the ensemble.
